Benedict Cumberbatch in talks to head up Doctor Strange
Has Marvel found its man?
After weeks and months of rumours, it looks as though Marvel has finally found its Doctor Strange, with Deadline reporting that Benedict Cumberbatch is in talks with the studio over the role.
Having seen Joaquin Phoenix enter negotiations and then walk away from the deal, it would be premature to confirm anything just yet, but according to the report, discussions are at an advanced stage.
Cumberbatch has long been linked to Marvel’s wish-list for the project, but had initially seemed unlikely to be available, on account of his stage commitments to a London production of Hamlet .
However, it seems as though the studio has rejigged its schedule, with the proposed shooting dates no longer thought to be a stumbling block. Time to start getting excited…
Directed by Scott Derrickson, Doctor Strange will open in the US on 8 July 2016, with a UK release date to be confirmed.
