Benicio Del Toro to be the villain in Star Wars Episode 8

Benicio Del Toro might be about to land himself in hot water with Disney head honchos after an interview with Spanish news outlet confirmed he will be playing the villain in Star Wars: Episode 8, while also revealing when cameras are set to begin rolling on the project.

Star Wars is coming up, we will see how that turns out,” said Del Toro, when asked by the station how his schedule is looking for the near future. “I think we start shooting in March.”

It had also been suggested previously that his character will be the villain of the piece, something that Del Toro appeared to confirm when grilled on the subject. “The thing is, they don’t let me talk too much about it,” said the star. “I’m like the villain. But we’ll see.”

Sounds like he’s the bad guy then, although neither Disney nor Lucasfilm have officially confirmed that Del Toro is even appearing in the film, let alone any details about his character. Loose lips, Benicio. Loose lips… Star Wars: Episode 8 will open in the UK and US on May 26, 2017.
