Best of E3 06: PC
We've deserted the Console Wars and joined a PC gaming utopia
Vanguard: Saga of Heroes
Publisher: SOE
Developer: Sigil Games Online
Release Date: TBA 2007
Some thought that the biggest news surrounding the massively multiplayer Vanguard: Saga of Heroes at E3 was that the developers - parents of EverQuest - came home to roost under Sony Online Entertainment's publishing wing. Well, that did raise our eyebrows, but it was Vanguard's more-than-ambitious world that cranked our eyelids all the way back around our heads.
Containing more beauty, gameplay and detail in its little pinky finger than the contents of many entire games - Vanguard simultaneously tackles the twin issues of overcrowding and instancing that plague today's MMOs. The developers have created a world big enough so that it won't require instancing - and are crafting enough content so that we'll never run out of things to do and see.
