There's still a significant difference to its lowest ever price, but even well before November 29th drives like the 4TB Samsung 990 Pro are now $299 at Amazon, meanwhile the iconic 1TB WD Black SN850X 1TB NVMe M.2 SSD is down to $79.99, just a $20 difference from its lowest ever price during last years big sales event.
This year there are also external hard drives, portable SSDs, and other accessories for the PS5 to think about too. While you can't run games straight from external drives like the Samsung T9 2TB variant of the Buffalo External 4TB SSD, they've already seen notable discounts on the lead-up to Black Friday. Their hefty storage space can also help put an end to the constant need to delete your PS5 library to make room for new games and PS Plus Premium releases. Whether you go with an internal or external PS5 SSD, you won't have to wait until November 29 to pick up a bargain.

When will Black Friday PS5 SSD deals start?
Black Friday officially begins on Friday, November 29 this month. That may seem later than usual for Black Friday, but that just means you have more reason to make use of the deals for some early Christmas shopping. Keep in mind though, that early bird offers appear earlier every year. We'd recommend that you keep your eye out for offers from October onward, and as soon as the deals start coming in, we'll be listing them on this page.

Black Friday PS5 SSD deals: What to expect this year
After a year of tough prices to stomach, Black Friday holds a lot of promise for some genuine PS5 SSD discounts. What's more, as the Gen 4 SSD interface begins to age, and more Gen 5 offerings enter the PC market, we'd hope that prices will naturally begin to fall anyway.
Either way, since PS5 SSDS with integrated heatsinks can usually cost more than drives with no cooling, Black Friday could help save you some money, at least bringing the costs down to levels we were familiar with in 2023. Still, buying a heatsink separately might be a better way to go, depending on the drive you're aiming to buy.
We'd expect the big hitters to go on sale during Black Friday this year. The WD Black SN850X is a prime contender, as is the Seagate FireCuda 530 if the stock can hold steady for long enough, and the Samsung 990 Pro should be one to watch during big deals events like Black Friday. Also entering the upper echelon of Gen 4 drives this year has been the Corsair MP600 Elite, which we'd recommend highly. We've actually already begun to see discounts on this drive, which bodes well going into November.
Of course, budget brands like Nextorage, Fanxiang, and even SK Hynix will have discounts for their drives too, and you can usually find these at Amazon, and Newegg.
With the PS5 Pro finally out, folks who aren't up for the $700 upgrade might look to instead grab a storage boost. Black Friday SSD deals will no doubt be perfect for that, and 2TB and 4TB drives are always much cheaper during these times.
What SSD should you buy for PS5?
We feel confident saying that there definitely will be something for everyone in this year's Black Friday PS5 SSD deals. There are big brands that are well-established, but the great thing about the SSD market is that you don't need to go with a bigger brand to get amazing read and write speeds. Verbatim is a slightly lesser-known brand these days, but it came out with the Vi7000G this year, and it's easily one of the best-value PS5 SSDs money can buy.
The internal PS5 SSD market is likely to be an exciting one thanks to prices slowly coming down in the last year. Deal prices will most likely take amazing drives to historically low prices as manufacturers like Seagate and WD try to offset a troubling year. Internal drives such as the WD Black SN850 and Gigabyte's AORUS 7000s are beginning to get older, so that makes them good candidates for the first, big price cuts to look for.
One tip for Black Friday is to look for SSDs without a heatsink, as these are often more heavily discounted than the ones designed for use in the PS5. It's so easy to get your hands on a great PS5 heatsink on the cheap, and even getting these things separately can save you money sometimes.
The Samsung 980 PRO 1TB is a great bet for a "lowest ever price" in this year's Black Friday PS5 SSD deals - across all of its capacities. It's been on the scene for a bit longer now and has already seen its 'normal' price settle at a lower level. With the 990 Pro being a more established contender now too, we could see some excellent discounts to Samsung's range.
Whatever internal model you have your eyes on, remember it will still have to meet Sony's criteria and recommended specs. Here they are again for convenience:

When it comes to the best PS5 external hard drives, you have plenty of options. HDD will be the cheap and cheerful form of storage it always is, but if you want to store more PS5 games on an external drive, a portable SSD is what you'll need. This year, the WD Black P40 has emerged as the best external hard drive we've seen, but you don't need to go that pricey for solid read/write speeds.
Older external SSDs might be the ones to watch. The perenially popular Samsung T5 is getting harder to find these days, but the T7 Shield is taking its place. While it, too, has been out for a while and its regular price point is decent, it could be prone to price cuts this Black Friday. The WD P10 SSD (5TB) is also one we'd keep a close eye on. At the time of writing, it's on sale at Amazon in the US for only $110, so that bodes very well for external prices come Black Friday.
And remember, there'll be great discounts off loads of PS5 external HDDs too: from long-time favorites like WD's My Passport to Seagate's licensed hard drive companions for PS4 and Xbox One. Even value drives like Toshiba's Canvio Advance range to premium, large-scale expansions like Seagate's desktop big boys will see reductions as HDD continues to get cheaper.
