Why you can trust GamesRadar+
The snobby indie rocker in us wants to lambaste the40 song track list of mainstream, Lite FM pap, but we'll be damned if it isn't totally suited to the occasion. Even if you've spent the last ten years listening to nothing but college radio and obscure Frank Zappa LP's - you know these songs. And so will anyone else willing to cut a rug with you.Whether you're a regular John Travolta, or just a mojo-less wallflower willing to throw dignity to the wind, Boogie is extremely infectious and can really get your feet moving if you're not careful.
But Boogie 's downfall is that the dancing aspect is limited to almost four directional moves: up, down, left and right - sometimes with a button thrown in to shift things around. So it's shallow. It's also finicky; just when the real world is falling away and you're losing yourself in a quick rendition of The Ohio Player's "Love Rollercoaster,"you'll wave the wand a bit toodiagonally and the game will disturb your groove, telling youthat youmissed a beat.
Above: You can still dance while singing, but it won't count towards your score
It's notlike the Wii remote isn't capable of more than a cross pattern, sodiscouragingtruly "cutting loose" makes what should be a total loss of inhibitions feel like a rigid ballroom dance class at a brutalEuropean orphange.
The singing aspect is great, accurately measuring both pitch and timing, but it's nothing new to anyonefamiliar with theSingstar series. And we really wish that Boogie would've incorporated the karaoke with the dancing, instead of separately, if only to get those dreams of dual televisions and simultaneous feats of Guitar Hero and DDR out of our heads.Karaokebeing restricted to one player only is another blow to the game's potential.
