X-Men director Bryan Singer is entering The Twilight Zone , having closed a deal with CBS Studios to develop, executive produce and possibly direct the pilot of a reboot of Rod Serling’s 1960s sci-fi anthology series.
According to Deadline , which broke the news, the search is now on for a writer to help craft the new series.
The original series ran for five seasons and 156 episodes on CBS from 1959 to 1964, with Rod Serling writing the majority of episodes and acting as presenter.
There have been two series revivals since then, one lasting for three seasons from 1985 to 1989, also on CBS, and another which ran for one season on the now defunct in 2002. There was also the anthology film, Twilight Zone: The Movie in 1983, with segments directed by John Landis, Joe Dante, Steven Spielberg and George Miller.
Currently there is another Twilight Zone movie in development at Warner Bros with Cloverfield 's Matt Reeves attached to direct.
Singers immediately previous foray onto TV was another reboot, which sadly didn’t develop into a series. He directed the pilot for The Munsters update Mockingbird Lane .
