Call of Duty: Black Ops has already laid claim to numerous sales records - it scored the highest-grossing launch day of any entertainment product, its first-week sales set new game industry records, and it generated the most Xbox Live activity ever recorded in a 24-hour period. Hell, it probably holds the record for the most records. Now, Activision is saying that the game has already become the top selling PS3 title in the console's four-year history.
Back in November, on the first day it hit store shelves, Black Ops raked in $360 million. That shattered the old record for the most money earned on a videogame's launch day, which had been set by none other than Black Ops's predecessor, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. No other movie or music release has ever grossed as much on its launch day.
It doesn't come as a surprise, then, that Black Ops continues to pull in huge sales, but it does kind of make our heads twitch to hear that a game which has been out for less than four months has already sold more than any other title released on the PS3 since November 2006.
Activision says its claim is based on widely available sales numbers provided by firms like NPD Group, Chart-Track, and GfK. The only question left then is: how can Activision top this? Will Modern Warfare 3 again surpass the last CoD game, or is Activision's winning-streak going to peter out?
