Cameron Diaz opens The Box
For Richard Kelly
Aiming to put the beleaguered Southland Tales behind him, Richard Kelly is focusing on his next project, long-gestating horror tale The Box.
And he’s certainly moved forward - Cameron Diaz has just agreed to star in the movie, which Kelly adapted from Richard Matheson’s short story Button, Button. The tale has a young woman presented with a strange box by a stranger. All she knows is that certain things will happen based on which button she presses. And, since it’s a creepy tale that can only mean bad things.
"My hope is to make a film that is incredibly suspenseful and broadly commercial, while still retaining my artistic sensibility," Kelly blabbed to Variety. Translation: “My last film was a nightmare. Please let this one go smoothly!”
With $30 million to spend on scaring us all, Kelly plans to start shooting in November.
