Cannes 2011: Gemma Arterton gets a Crooked House

Gemma Arterton has signed on to Neil LaBute's big screen adaptation of Agatha Christie's murder mystery Crooked House .

The plot sees three generations of family living in the same mansion. When the millionaire patriarch is murdered, suspicion is spread amongst his eccentric family, all of whom have motive.

The investigating detective must determine whether a family member is the culprit, or the next victim.

Crooked House is one of the few Agatha Christie stories not to appear on the big or small screen, the story purportedly being one of the writer's personal favourites.

The story also doesn't feature one of Christie's better known detecitves, such as Miss Marple or Poirot, and is one of the few tales to incorporate a romantic sublot.

Director Neil LaBute has already attached a host of names to the project, including Julie Andrews, Matthew Goode and Gabriel Byrne, along with Arterton.

Crooked House is set to film in the UK this summer for a 2012 release.
