Cars 2 speeds all the way to box office victory
Takes $68m in opening weekend
Pixar’s hot-wheeled sequel Cars 2 revved to the top of the US box office this weekend, grossing an impressive $68m.
In a bit of a blow to Pixar's stellar run, the follow-up to the studio’s 2006 vehicle only managed to bag fair to middling reviews, even though it beat the first Car s' debut of $60m.
However, the sequel was still streets ahead of the nearest competition, with Cameron Diaz’s Bad Teacher (a fitting title given the critical reactions it has had) landing in second place with $31m.
Despite also failing to charm the critics, Green Lantern continued to attract audiences in third ($18.3m), while Super 8 dropped to fourth with $12.1m.
