Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara share chemistry in first clip from Carol: Cannes 2015
The first clip from Cannes hopeful Carol has been released online by StudioCanal.
Todd Haynes’ drama pairs Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara against the backdrop of ‘50s New York, with Mara’s Therese falling for Blanchett’s married title character.
The newly released footage shows off the chemistry between the leads, as, over lunch, Carol encourages Therese to visit her country house. Based on a novel by The Talented Mr. Ripley writer Patricia Highsmith, expect Carol to feature similar amounts of buttoned-up, repressed desires as in Haynes’ earlier, Oscar-nominated work, Far From Heaven.

Having picked up the Best Actress Oscar in 2014 for her role in Blue Jasmine (her second Academy Award), Blanchett could see Carol land her the hat-trick if it delivers on the weighty expectations.
Haynes and his cast will be hitting the Croisette this year to debut the film, and we’ll be posting our reaction to the film here as soon as it screens.
Carol is yet to confirm a UK or US release date, although you can probably expect it to arrive right around awards season…
