Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara meet in '50s drama Carol
StudioCanal has dropped the first teaser trailer for period flick Carol. Director Todd Haynes appears to be shooting for Oscar glory with his '50s-set drama, starring Cate Blanchett as a glamorous, bored housewife and Rooney Mara as the young department store worker with whom she strikes up a friendship.
Based on the Patricia Highsmith novel The Price Of Salt, the plot chronicles their relationship as it blossoms into romance. The path to true love certainly doesn't run smoothly for this pair as they try to overcome various hurdles standing in their way - especially Carol's husband, played by Kyle Chandler. Check out the first teaser below:
It's not clear exactly who's seducing who in this moody, tonal teaser, yet the performances are what lend this drama clout. Blanchett's a natural as Carol, the confident blonde who takes Mara's shy, naive Therese under her wing.
Carol opens in the US on November 20, followed by a UK release on November 27.
