Chiwetel Ejiofor's Doctor Strange character revealed
Chiwetel Ejiofor may not have been officially confirmed as part of Marvel's Doctor Strange, but should he sign on the dotted line, Deadline has revealed the character he will be playing, with the 12 Years A Slave star in line to assume villain duties.
Should negotiations prove successful, Ejiofor will reportedly play Baron Mordo, one of the key antagonists from the comic-book series. In the comics, Mordo is a fellow pupil of The Ancient One, and acts as a kind of evil counterpoint to the similarly gifted Strange.
However, Deadline suggests that the movie version of Mordo may be significantly different, describing this incarnation as "an amalgamation of characters culled from Doctor Strange's mythology". That would seem to fit in with director Scott Derrickson's fast and loose approach to the source material, having already cast Tilda Swinton in the traditionally male role of The Ancient One.
Assuming Ejiofor does strike a deal with Marvel, that's as heavyweight a leading trio as the studio has assembled so far! Starring Benedict Cumberbatch in the title role, Doctor Strange will open in the UK on 28 October 2016 and the US on 4 November 2016.
