Clive embarks on Hellraiser remake
Weinsteins approach Barker to scribble Pinhead’s beginnings for big budget re-hash
Okay, so maybe Hollywood is beginning to choke on the sheer volume of horror re-workings they’re churning out but still, this news can be filed under ‘things that make us go… hmm…’
The official Clive Barker website has slapped a chat with Hellraiser head-honcho Barker up online and it seems that he has accepted a nice, fat offer from The Weinstein Company to write a remake of the first adventures of Pinhead.
“They’re going to make Hellraiser One with a lot more money and they’ve invited me to write it,” Barker stated. “The invitation came from Bob Weinstein and I’m going to do it, on the basis that if I don’t do it, it will be done in some way that I probably won’t like!”
Barker kicked off the Hellraiser movies in 1987 and scribbled the follow-up a year later. Then in 1992 a third flick emerged without Barker’s involvement and the franchise is now up to part eight.
Barker revealed that he took the remake gig because the money the Weinsteins are putting behind it means he can improve on the original.
“I’m excited about it. It’ll be kind of cool to revisit it once and see if there are things we can do to make it better. It also puts me in the situation of writing both the beginning and end of Pinhead at the same time.”
The end? After nine movies? Not a little premature, you think?
