Clive Owen to play Oldboy villain?
Linked to Spike Lee's remake
Spike Lee’s much-maligned Oldboy remake has been a veritable goldmine of casting gossip over recent weeks, with Clive Owen the latest star to have his name thrown into the ring.
It was just over a week ago that Colin Firth was believed to be the frontrunner for the film’s chief antagonist, only for the Oscar-winner to turn down the opportunity. Twitch is now reporting that Clive Owen has been offered the chance to step up to the plate.
It certainly appears to make more sense on the face of things, although it certainly would have been intriguing to see Firth given the opportunity to play against type in a more villainous role.
Owen and Lee do of course have previous history, with Owen having played a stony-faced bank-robber in Lee's superior heist thriller Inside Man .
We’ll have to wait and see as to whether this rumour carries more weight than those that have gone before, but we wouldn’t be surprised to see Clive’s patented scowl when this one eventually gets out of the development stage.
