Clooney and Soderbergh split
Production partners call it a day and say goodbye to Section Eight
It was a marriage made in Hollywood heaven – and maybe as close as George Clooney will ever get to getting spliced – but now it’s over.
The silver fox and his production partner, helmer Steven Soderbergh, are closing down Section Eight Productions, the firm behind box office hits such as Ocean’s Eleven and critics’ favourite Good Night, And Good Luck.
After six years working together, the pair will official split on 1 August when Clooney will launch Smoke House Productions with his Good Night cohort, Grant Heslov.
Clooney’s thirst for developing and producing movies was far greater than that of Soderbergh who wants to get back on set and concentrate on directing. Section Eight will handle production duties on the upcoming Clooney projects Ocean’s Thirteen and The Good German before shutting up shop.
Smoke House Productions nabs its name from the restaurant in Burbank, California that lies opposite George Clooney’s office on the Warner Bros lot.
