Cloverfield and Let Me In director Matt Reeves is writing and directing a remake of John Carpenter's 1988 cult favourite, They Live , for Universal.
That film was based on short story Eight O'clock in the Morning by Ray Nelson, and focused on a nameless drifter played by former WWF/E star Rowdy Roddy Piper.
He turns up in LA, and thanks to the discovery of a pair of magic sunglasses, he discovers that advertisements are sending out rather unsubtle subliminal messages, and perhaps more worryingly, that aliens are walking among us in disguise.
Little is known about Reeves' remake right now, but he'll have a job reaching the cheesy highs of the original: can he possibly match the fight scene between Piper and Keith David?
It could also be difficult finding a lead who could deliver the immortal "bubblegum" line with Piper's bravado…
Reeves has other projects lined up, including The Invisible Woman and a possible Cloverfield sequel, but it looks like this'll be first out of the gate.
