Coen Bros to remake a John Wayne Western!

Hollywood these days. Can't think of a new idea. All remakes are rubbish. Etc. Except... when the remake in question is from an overlooked genre and it's being directed by Ethan and Joel Coen.

According to Variety , the brothers next picture will be a remake of True Grit, the Western that gave John Wayne an Oscar.

As you'd expect, it's been confirmed that the Coen's version will be more faithful to the Charles Portis book than the 1969 movie.

Portis' novel is about a 14-year-old girl who, along with an aging U.S. marshal and another lawman, tracks her father's killer in hostile Indian territory.

But in contrast to the Wayne vehicle, The Coens intend to tell the story from the perspective of the little girl.

There's no word on casting choices yet, but we're already lining up the entire flick in our head. Another Best Picture nod to The Coens in 2010/11? We think so.

Does the idea of The Coen Brothers helming a Western fill you with joy or dread?
