CON REPORT London Anime Con

The fifth gathering of the Anime League delivers fun and fashion reports Ziggy Newman

The Anime League's Ziggy Newman tells SFX about last weekend's packed London event:

30 June to 1 July 2012, The Rocket Complex (London Metropolitan University)

The first morning’s events consisted of light socialising with live music. In every square inch there was colour, whether in the form of those cosplaying their favourite anime and gaming characters, or the array of dealers selling everything from The Best New Manga volumes (editor ILYA himself was present!) to cute “Lolita” accessories that could be seen coupled with charming dresses.

Roll on day two and the crossovers continued in the form of Method Cell. This dark electronic duo had the crowd industrial dancing - a popular style exhibited by the cyber-goth subculture at gigs. Even I couldn’t help dancing myself crazy to this amazing duo, which I would recommend to anyone wishing to get a taste of the darker side of synthpop.

Along with my tribute to Portal ’s Chell in the masquerade, this made for a fantastic weekend of fun. Though not on the scale of London Film And Comic Con , London Anime Con is a must for anyone wishing to start becoming a fan of conventions in the capital. Those interested may also want to attend Alcon, Anime League ’s four-day event in Leicester, which you can read about at www.alcon.org.uk . Happy cosplaying!

Thanks Ziggy! The next London Anime Con takes place in February 2013
