Cruise re-forms United Artists
Tom and MGM execs resurrecting Chaplin’s old studio
The world's most famous grin will be cracking from ear to ear today as Tom Cruise and his production partner Paula Wagner have sealed a deal to head-up movie studio United Artists.
The company, founded over eight decades ago by Charlie Chaplin, Douglas Fairbanks, Mary Pickford and DW Griffith, will work in partnership with MGM and sees TC nab a development deal for starring vehicles.
Wagner will take on the role of executive producer, with United Artists in a position to green-light prospective flicks for MGM’s production slate.
Cruise/Wagner Productions former deal with Paramount went belly-up earlier this year after the two parties failed to agree terms on a new contract. Paramount big cheese Sumner Redstone intimated that the parting of ways was due to Cruise’s off-screen behaviour.
That’s a bit harsh… if TF got rid of someone every time they leapt up and down on a couch, the Online Ed would’ve been packing her stuff on day one.
