CryEngine 2 console visuals 'like high settings on PC'
That's what we're expecting from the final outcome of the engine on console, says Crytek rep
It's a well-known fact that Crytek is porting its CryEngine 2 tech that powered Crysis to console, but it's yet to confirm whether it's working on PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of the PC FPS.
It MUST be happening though; and expect the visual quality of the first-person shooter on both consoles to be the equivalent of, or very close to, high graphics settings on Crysis on the PC. Well, that's the suggestion from Crytek engine business manager Harald Seeley, anyway.
"The surprising thing has been how well the consoles can perform visually, once this tailoring [tailoring the engine specifically to each platform] is in place. We expect the final outcome will result in games that look like they're running at high settings, or nearly high settings, on a PC," Seeley told IGN about the CryEngine 2 port to console.
He added that it's been more challenging porting CryEngine 2 to PS3 than Xbox 360, but said that Crytek believes it can get the most that's possible out of Sony's console.
"...therefore," he added confidently, "PS3 games which run on our engine in the future will definitely stand significantly apart from other games that don't."
