Crysis

The short video is also packed with proof-of-concept stuff like subtle soft-shadowing, ambient lighting and motion blur, and even more quietly-cool elements like translucent leaves and startlingly realistic clouds. Which, in real-world speak, means this is very likely the most realistic-looking game we've ever seen. We can only speculate at how these new elements will be harnessed in-game; dog-fighting aliens through the clouds? We hope so. But it's the thought of revisiting jungle warfare in this spiritual successor to Far Cry that makes us fidget with anticipation.

If we hadn't been down this road before, we might dismiss some of this tech as fluff. But we know better: simply dropping in Far Cry's vicious, wicked-smart enemies into Crysis ' extreme environments sounds like can't-miss, not-soon-forgotten gameplay. We'll follow up with a hands-on look at E3 in May, but thewaiting-until-2007 partalready has us worried.
