Dane DeHaan confirmed as Harry Osborn in The Amazing Spider-Man 2

Dane DeHaan has officially been confirmed as the new Harry Osborn in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 , with the studio clearly opting for the “brooding outsider” approach to the character.

DeHaan was initially linked to the role before reports emerged claiming that Sony were looking for a more athletic, all-American take on the character. However, it seems that they’ve reverted to their first vision.

Norman Osborn has been a peripheral figure at this stage in proceedings, but depending on how Osborn Sr's story arc plays out, we could well see Harry become a villain, as was the case in Sam Raimi’s trilogy. Casting the intense DeHaan would certainly allow for that contingency.

“Dane is an exciting and extraordinary young actor and he is a fantastic addition to our cast,” said director Marc Webb, before DeHaan tweeted that, “to say I’m excited is an understatement.”

Meanwhile, Jamie Foxx and Shailene Woodley have also been officially confirmed as Electro and Mary-Jane Watson respectively. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will open in the UK on 18 April 2014.
