Dark Sector - first look

Later enemies aren't nearly so forgiving. In the cramped, dilapidated interior we saw Hayden stalk through, he ran into spooky guys who sprayed inferon, a radioactive gas that messes with mutants like Hayden something fierce. When these masked creeps stepped into view and started the spray, the action onscreen suddenly started shaking, distorting and flashing bright colors. Inferon also disrupts Hayden's powers, so you'll apparently be reduced to shooting blindly with whatever guns you've got on you until the effects wear off.

The good news is that fighting these things will grant Hayden new abilities and help him evolve his powers. How, we're not exactly sure, but we're looking forward to finding out more as Dark Sector's late-2007 release date gets closer.

After graduating from college in 2000 with a BA in journalism, I worked for five years as a copy editor, page designer and videogame-review columnist at a couple of mid-sized newspapers you've never heard of. My column eventually got me a freelancing gig with GMR magazine, which folded a few months later. I was hired on full-time by GamesRadar in late 2005, and have since been paid actual money to write silly articles about lovable blobs.
