Darren Aronofsky gets Biblical
He’ll follow The Fountain with a religious epic
Now that Darren Aronofsky has finally brought sci-fi romance The Fountain to the screen, he can get on with the business of making other movies. And, to ensure that he doesn’t have such a big gap between films, he’s already well into the planning stages.
Talking to CHUD.com at the weekend, Aronofsky let slip a few details about what that film might be. Dismissing talk of manga adaptation Lone Wolf And Cub (“Paramount never got the rights. And now the rights don’t exist”), he let slip that he wants to make a big studio film with a religious theme. “I'm not going to tell you exactly what it is, but… It's a biblical epic. It's something I've wanted to do for a long time. Before Pi. Probably ten years ago, I had an idea. Actually, I wrote a poem about it when I was in 7th grade. I won this award for it - my first writing award. So it's a story from the Bible that kind of stuck with me. About ten years ago I was at a museum that featured an exhibit that reminded me of it. So we've been trying to crack it for a while, and we finally figured out a direction.”
Let’s hope that this time, he manages to get the funds and a cast who actually stays around to make the final film. We’ll bring you more details as we get them.
