David O. Russell to make Joy Mangano biopic starring Jennifer Lawrence?
Director working on the story of the Mother of Invention
With his American Hustle still awaiting on Oscar success, David O. Russell is wasting no time in moving on to his next project.
Deadline reports that the director is in talks to rewrite a project for Fox 2000 about Miracle Mop inventor Joy Mangano with an eye on eventually directing the film. And he reportedly wants his Silver Linings Playbook and American Hustle star Jennifer Lawrence to play the lead.
The biopic will be a rags-to-riches story, telling how Joy Mangano, a single mother of three children working three jobs to support them, ending up becoming ‘Mother of Invention’ when she developed a prototype for her Miracle Mop in 1990.
The product went on to become a huge seller on QVC when Mangano herself went on air to pitch it and sold 18,000 mops in 20 minutes. Mangano went on to become a successful inventor of similar domestic products and later sold her mop-making business in a multimillion-dollar deal.
There's no word yet on whether Lawrence will accept the part, which might be tricky considering her busy schedule. Coming up, she has commitments to Serena, X-Men: Days Of Future Past and The Hunger Games; Mockingbird, not to mention other projects to which she has been attached.
