Denzel Washington counts on The Taking Of Pelham 1,2,3
And Tony Scott will direct…
The Taking Of Pelham One Two Three is a minor classic, not only for that unusual title but thanks to a cool theme, some iconic thesping work from Walter Matthau in the 1974 original and because it was one of the inspirations for Quentin Tarantino’s Reservoir Dogs.
How so? Well, the plot about four hijackers taking over a subway train may not sound similar, but they sport coloured code names, such as Mr Blue and Mr Brown. Yeah, there goes the light bulb…
The crime thriller has also inspired regular collaborators Denzel Washington and Tony Scott to get back together one more time to plot a remake. Writer David Koepp has penned a script that shifts the action to modern-day New York and sees Lieutenant Zachary Z Garber (Washington) trying to figure out what the real motive for the crime is and get the passengers out alive.
Sony’s ponying up the cash to make it, and Scott plans to start work early next year.
