Destiny: Xur weapons, gear, and location September 18-20. New Exotics!
Destiny's weekly merchant, Xur, has returned to the Tower! It's his first appearance since The Taken King arrived, and things are... a little different. Find him in the North Tower, right across from the Speaker. You can still trade Strange Coins for Exotic weapons and armour pieces, but there's a slightly different menu on offer. Of course, the headline story is that Xur isn't selling an Exotic weapon now. Bungie explains that the reason for this is players are supposed to get their new Exotic firearms from completing quests and doing Strikes etc. Ok then. Here's a list of Xur's weekly wares:
- The Impossible Machines (Exotic Warlock Gauntlets) - 13 Strange Coins
- An Insurmountable Skullfort (Exotic Titan Gauntlets) - 13 Strange Coins
- Young Ahamkara's Spine (Exotic Hunter Gauntlets) - 13 Strange Coins
- Exotic Helmet Engram - 19 Strange Coins
- Exotic Weapon Engram - 31 Strange Coins
- Three of Coins - 7 Strange Coins
Ok, so there's a lot of Year One gear here, upgraded to Year Two levels. Should you pick up the armour pieces? The Titan's Insurmountable Skullfort is perfect for Defenders who love to punch their way through groups using Force Barrier. You now get an additional melee charge as a special ability. Hunters - eh - the Year 2 version of Young Ahamkara's Spine gives you increased Tripmine duration and an additional grenade. Handy, but not essential, for Crucible. And Warlocks? Ooh - The Impossible Machines grants you landfall and increases melee attack speed, so it's worth picking up.
Other changes? So, Xur isn't selling an Exotic gun, but you can buy an Exotic weapon Engram. However, Bungie says that this is more likely to skew towards a Year One Exotic, used to complete your collection. You're less likely to get a duplicate, though, so if you're missing some older Exotics, this is for you. Oh, and you now buy armour AND weapon Engrams with Strange Coins, so buyer beware!
What's that Three of Coins? Funny you should ask. Equipping this will increase the chances of bosses and Ultras dropping Exotic Engrams and items - especially during the Court of Oryx, so you may well get lucky with a random new gun there. So, my advice is to get stuck in.
Don't forget that Xur is only around from now until 10am UK / 2am Pacific on September 20, after which he's gone... until next week.
