Deus Ex Human Revolution: Why ‘clutter’ is important for keeping it real
EXCLUSIVE: Developer diary takes a closer look at the cities and locations in upcoming prequel
I don%26rsquo;t usually like clutter. Clutter is the dirty coffee mug on my desk, the piles of crumpled papers and chaotic notes taunting me from all sides. But in Deus Ex: Human Revolution, clutter is key. It%26rsquo;s what makes the game%26rsquo;s many city hubs and locations feel real. That%26rsquo;s according to Art Director Jonathan Jacques-Belletete.
%26ldquo;Everything in Human Revolution is designed from the ground up,%26rdquo; says Jacques-Belletete. %26ldquo;There%26rsquo;s something like thirteen, fourteen hundred props in the game. One of the visual directions I gave straight from the get-go was clutter - like, loads of crap everywhere, like dangling, and piled on top of one another. I wanted to have ads and billboards everywhere,%26rdquo; he continues.
