Dewy's Adventure - hands-on
The disturbingly cheerful dewdrop drops in
The first boss battle we tackled was against a demon hopping around in a pot that spewed purple gas from its chiseled ass. Yes, that's what it was. Look at the screens. Dewy's ice form is the only one that can hurt this guy, so a simple combo attack dazes the monster and causes it to release a few drops of water. Moving Dewy over these makes him swell into an even blobbier state (yet he retains his exuberant smile), large enough to attract the attention of a nearby vacuum. It sucks up Dewy and blasts him back at the monster, tearing away pieces of his golden pot. Repeat a few times and he's toast.
If you check out our screens, you'll see images of two play modes that our build doesn't even have ready yet - level editing and multiplayer. Seeing as you have to tilt and shake the world to get ahead, we're not sure how four people could play together, unless perhaps you all take off on the same area on separate screens as well as separate worlds, so your tilting won't affect your friend's titling. Could be.
Dewy's Adventure still seems like a simple, fun, cutesy, slightly addicting little platformer even with its minor control issues. There's still plenty of time until the final release, so any quibbles at this early stage are likely to be addressed. Expect to see much more of this guy as the year wears on.
