Diablo III class guide
A level 30 guide to Nightmare
The Wizard
The Wizard is all about damage. With powerful spells that hit multiple targets the Wizard is meant to annihilate your enemies in the swiftest way possible. You’re best strategy is to stick to the furthest reaches of the screen and throw magic at every enemy you see. The Wizard, even under the best circumstances, will not take the blows the same way a Barbarian or Monk can. With this in mind you want to stack on the Intelligence gear as heavily as possible. Strength and Dexterity will be useless to you and Vitality only plays a minor roll and should never be a major part of your build.
Solo Build
- Primary: Magic Missile (Charged Blast)
- Secondary: Ray of Frost (Snow Blast)
Action Bar Spells:
- Diamond Skin (Crystal Shell)
- Wave of Force (Impactful Wave)
- Arcane Orb (Obliteration)
- Energy Armor
Passive Skills:
Blur, Evocation, Astral Presence
When working alone, you'll want to keep a few more defensive spells ready for emergency use. Wave of Force can get you out of tight situations and Diamond Skin in particular is great for tanking. In the beginning, Ray of Frost and Arcane Orb are great spells to help deal with the masses. Disintegrate works even better later on. When alone always make sure to keep at least 1 spell available that doesn't require arcane power. Magic Missile or Electrocute are great when your Arcane Power runs dry. It also doesn't hurt to have one to two items with some Vitality on them – a little extra health never hurt anyone.
Group Build
- Primary: Electrocute (Chain Lightning)
- Secondary: Disintegrate (Convergence)
Action Bar:
- Meteor (Molten Impact)
- Diamond Skin (Prism)
- Archon
- Wave of Force (Force Affinity)
Passive Skills:
Glass Cannon, Astral Presence, Evocation
Group work is where Wizards shine. Diamond Skin is still great if you get caught by surprise, but every other slot should be filled with your heaviest spells. Disintegrate, Meteor, Hydra and Archon are all amazing spells when you have other people soaking up damage for you. Astral Presence, Glass Cannon and Evocation should be set in your passive skill slot to boost your overall power. If you carry Vitality gear for soloing, change it out for Intelligence and let fly your powerful magic.
Boss Build
- Primary: Magic Missile (Charged Blast)
- Secondary: Disintegrate (Convergence)
Action Bar:
- Meteor: (Molten Impact)
- Diamond Skin: (Prism Rune)
- Archon
- Ray Of Frost: (Snow Blast)
Passive Skills:
Glass Cannon, Astral Presence, Evocation
When it comes to bosses you won’t need to change much. While soloing it would be wise to equip more defensive spells like Diamond Skin, Energy Armor and Mirror Image. As a Wizard, boss fights will mostly be about dodging them, striking when you see a chance and running away. For offense you’ll want quick spells: Hydra, Magic Missile, Arcane Orb and Wave of Force are all great. You can cast them and continue running.
When taking on bosses as a group, then you should not have to change your spells. All you want is to be the powerhouse while your team tries their best to keep your enemies busy.
Best Follower
The Templar. His ability to tank his way through damage is unparalleled and his Inspire skill also can boost your Arcane Power recovery. He even has his own Heal spell which is incredibly useful. Gear him up in Vitality and some Strength and he will walk into armies of enemies and not die.
