Did you spot this Night King/Bran Easter egg in the Game of Thrones season 7 finale?
Game of Thrones season 7 may have seen its fair share of spills and thrills, but, amid all the wights and fights there was a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it Night King Easter egg. Not only does it look cool but it might – if you want to believe a certain fan theory – have far-reaching ramifications for Westeros… Spoilers for Game of Thrones season 7 follow.
The season 7 finale not only featured the Night King melting part of the Wall with his brand-new wight dragon, it also included the army of the dead making their way south in a very interesting formation (h/t /Film). Take a look for yourself below.
Looks familiar, right? Squint and you’ll be able to make out the outline of a very specific sigil: House Stark. Yep, the White Walkers thought now would be a good time to mess with everyone by playing on a fan favourite theory.
So the theory goes, Bran – with his super-duper warging ability – ends up going back in time and possessing the Night King while still in human form. Things, inevitably (it is Thrones after all) don’t go to plan and Bran ends up becoming the Night King.
Does it make a lick of sense? Well, no, not really, but that Easter egg will certainly get people talking and add some more fuel to the never-ending fire of fan theories. After all, the director could’ve chosen any pattern to form there, so why the Stark direwolf? A cool nod? A knowing wink? Or something else entirely?
