Disgaea 3 coming to PS3
The hardcore strategy RPG finally goes next-gen
Disgaea- the hard-as-hell strategy RPG that won the hearts of tactical gamers back in 2003 and again in 2006- is finally getting a full sequel instead of more portable ports. Disgaea 3 will hit the PlayStation 3 this summer, bringing in an all-new cast of characters to go with the brand new story and the mostly-new gameplay system (battles are now 3D instead of 2D). Check out the first screenshere.
The plot (as told by Wikipedia) sounds like something out of Shakespeare’s comedy crib notes- only with demons and anime characters: there’s a “demon academy” where students get on the honor role by ditching class and not doing homework. One plucky youth wants to be the baddest of bad students and resolved to overthrow his father, the Overlord demon- which would be pretty bad. But to do this, he has to become a hero because apparently heroes are the only ones can defeat demons. The obligatory chick character tries to stop him and this other guy shows up and isometric battles ensue.
Fans of the series have a lot to look forward to- familiar character designs, battle systems, and hardcore strategizing. As for the rest of us, we’ll just have to wait and see what the third installment of the oddly-named game has to offer us on PlayStation 3 this summer.
