After passing on the opportunity to make the recent Tron game in 3D, Disney Interactive Studios has decided to open up to the idea of stereoscopic 3D technology with Cars 2, making it the newest publisher to jump on the growing bandwagon.
Developed by Avalanche Software, the game version of the upcoming Pixar flick will be available on Wii, Xbox 360, PC, Mac, and Nintendo DS, but it'll only be rendered in 3D for the PS3.
"The advancement of 3D technology will allow us to immerse the player into the Cars 2 game environment in a whole new way," said Avalanche VP John Blackburn in a statement.
Of the many game genres, racing is one of the best fits for 3D because the experience is all about depth - gauging how far until the next turn, how close the oncoming traffic is, and the distance between you and your competitors. Two of the 3DS launch titles were racing games.
Cars 2 will be available on all platforms on June 21, and the theatrical release of the related movie - which is also presented in 3D - will come three days later, on June 24.
