Disney's John Carter Of Mars
Or should that be John Carter Of Pixar?
First it was James Cameron Of Avatar, and now this – another legendary sci-fi story looks set to get the greenlight as Hollywood goes crazy for alien environments.
John Carter Of Mars is a property that’s been bandied about Hollywood for nearly 20 years now – with John McTiernan, Robert Rodriguez and Jon Favreau all attached at some stage.
Unsurprisingly, the story tells the tale of John Carter, a Civil War hero, who winds up on Mars. Once there, he marries a princess, raises a family and embarks on a series of exotic adventures, as we imagine everyone would if they ever got the chance to visit the planet.
The rights to Edgar Rice Burroughs’ other classic tale (i.e. not Tarzan) was held by Disney in the ‘90s, before being snapped up by Paramount in 2002, who decided to pass on it last year. Now Disney are in final negotiations to buy it back – with John Lasseter and Pixar said to be in the driving seat.
We don’t know about you, but we reckon Pixar’s John Carter Of Mars will be a tad better than John Carpenter’s Ghosts Of Mars. So good luck Lasseter!
