Djimon Hounsou is Thulsa Doom
Conan’s sorcerer is getting his own origin story…
A while ago, rumours began to surface that Djimon Hounsou would crop up in the planned remake of Conan The Barbarian. Now it looks like we have the true source of those casting whispers.
Because the actor has teamed up with Dynamite Entertainment for a film that will explore the troubled life of the sorcerer Thulsa Doom, as played by James Earl Jones in the original film. The character has is originals in Robert E Howard’s Delcardes’ Cat and the new movie is apparently planning to spin off to new comic books and detail how he became the flawed hero who meets Conan.
There’s no studio attached yet, but the people behind the bubbling Red Sonja pic starring Rose McGowan are producing it. Looks like the Conan universe is back in a big way – even if the furry-booted barbarian is taking his time returning… Variety is seeing its enemies driven before it .
