Withnail And I actor Richard E Grant has been cast in the 2012 Doctor Who Christmas Special, the BBC has announced via Twitter .
So far his role in the special, which starts filming this week, has not been revealed.
Grant already has a long association with Doctor Who. He appeared as one of the Doctors in the Steven Moffat-written Comic Relief Special “The Curse Of Fatal Death” in 1999, and was also the Doctor in the Paul Cornell-written online adventure “Scream Of The Shalka” in 2003. And in Withnail An I, of course, he starred alongside future Doctor Who Paul McGann.
So, hey, we’re getting a multi-Doctor story of sorts… (though the chances of him playing the Doctor are pretty slim, unless there are some “The Next Doctor” shenanigans going on).
