Doctor Whos Karen Gillan Interview Preview

Another tantalising titbit from the new issue of SFX on sale next week – a preview of our Karen Gillan interview

SFX : So, Amy’s married now, and has rediscovered she has parents. Does that change her character?
“Well, with the last series, what I wanted to do with Amy is keep her really guarded. She doesn’t like to show her emotions, because she wants to seem strong and she doesn’t like to be seen as vulnerable in any way, because of what happened to her in her childhood, so I kept her like that. But in this series, cracks are starting to form in that feisty exterior, and we’re starting to get glimpses into other aspects of her. And having her parents back in her life definitely does have an effect on her. But it’s kind of a mixed effect…”

SFX : What have been some of your highlights of shooting this series?
“The pirate ship was amazing! And it was really cool going to Utah – and that episode for me, I think, is the favourite story we’ve shot so far. Also, we get to see a bit more of the TARDIS than we’ve ever seen.”

SFX : The marital bedroom?
“Erm… maybe not! That was a real highlight for me because there’s a really cool bit in it. It’s more of a glimpse, which I quite like because I almost don’t want to see more of the TARDIS, because it keeps it mysterious. I wanna be able to think that there’s a swimming pool and a library in the same place. Then my imagination can fill in the gaps!”
