Doctor Who's new companion is Pearl Mackie
Doctor Who fans still have a while to wait for the return of Peter Capaldi's Time Lord, but now we at least know who will be accompanying the Doctor on his new adventures. During the FA Cup semi-final, it was announced that Pearl Mackie would be following in Jenna Coleman's footsteps as Twelve's newest companion.
“Shooting the trailer was absolutely mental", Mackie told the BBC. "There were pyro technics and smoke and I met my first Dalek! I’m not sure it will ever become ‘the norm’ seeing crazy monsters on set, but I cannot wait to meet some more! The weirder the better, bring it on!”

Mackie will be playing Bill, and the actress describes her character as "cool, strong, sharp, a little bit vulnerable with a bit of geekiness thrown in – I can’t wait to bring her to life, and to see how she develops through the series."
For his part, Capaldi is equally excited about the latest addition to the Doctor Who family; "It is a genuine delight to welcome Pearl Mackie to Doctor Who. A fine, fine actress with a wonderful zest and charm, she’s a refreshing addition to the TARDIS and will bring a universe of exciting new possibilities to The Doctor’s adventures."
Doctor Who will return to our TV screens with season 10 in 2017.
