Dont Look Now remake on the way
Nicolas Roeg’s seminal horror film Don’t Look Now is about to get the remake treatment, with THR reporting that StudioCanal and The Picture Company are working on a new version of the classic chiller.
According to the report, producers Alex Heineman and Andrew Rona are following the same template they used to get their Escape From New York remake off the ground: find a studio willing to back the film, and then start looking for the talent. As a result, no screenwriters or director are attached as yet.
For those unfamiliar with the original, it stems from a short story by Daphne DuMaurier and follows a recently bereaved couple on a trip to Venice. However, far from easing their pain, the trip soon turns into a nightmare as their daughter’s death looms large over proceedings.
Whether or not the film needs remaking at all is up for debate, but it would at least make a break from the slew of slasher reboots that have clogged up the box office over recent years. Give us a terrifying dwarf over a knife-wielding loon any day…
