Doom is about to get Deathmatch and private multiplayer for free

Doom may have demon-punching, face-melting, and gore galore, but there's always room for improvement. Thankfully, Bethesda and id Software are still giving the hellish FPS some love. An upcoming update will add free-for-all Deathmatch mode, as well as support for private matches. Oh, and it's free.

Deathmatch is pretty straightforward - it's the same mode that dominated FPS play in the '90s and early '00s, before gaming became obsessed with things like "teamwork" and "cooperation." As if we needed that when we have BFGs, right? As for private matches, these will let you murder your friends in peace without internet strangers jumping in, and you'll also be able to adjust settings like time limit, score limit, or turning demons and power weapons off or on.

There's no release date for the update, but Bethesda and id say it's coming later this month.
