Comic book creator Jim Starlin has linked up with Benderspink and Universal Cable Productions for a scripted TV series adaptation of his Dreadstar comic.
The original comic run began in 1982 under the Marvel imprint tag Epic Comics and ran for 64 issues. Out of those 64, Starlin penned 41 and will also write the forthcoming TV version.
Directly lifting the story from the panels, the show will follow Vanth Dreadstar. The sole survivor of the entire Milky Way, he and his band of ragtag crewmates - including cyborg sorcerer, Syzygy Darklock - will attempt to end an ancient war between two evil empires.
"I consider Dreadstar to be an extension of my family, so it took me a while to feel comfortable letting anyone else take care of this project," said Starlin. "It has taken some time, but I know I've put my trust in the right team and I'm excited to collaborate with Universal Cable Productions and Benderspink to bring Dreadstar's unique brand of chaos to television."
Starlin’s previous work includes the co-creation of popular Marvel characters Thanos, Drax The Destroyer and Gamora. He also contributed to the Iron Man and Captain Marvel comic book lines.
