After nearly 10 years under Sony, Driveclub and MotorStorm devs Evolution Studios is getting shut down. The studio was founded in 1999 and became known for their excellent work on racing games via the World Rally Championship series. Evolution was acquired by Sony in 2007, shortly after it completed work on MotorStorm, which was a launch title for the PS3 in Europe.
"It is regrettable that this decision will lead to compulsory redundancies," reads Sony's statement. "We accept that this decision will mean that we risk losing high calibre staff but by focusing on other studios that already have exciting new projects in development we believe we will be in a stronger position going forward and able to offer the best possible content of the highest quality for our consumers."
Sony has also promised to try to relocate employees wherever possible, and to assist those who will need jobs outside of the company's family of studios. "This decision should not take anything away from the great work that Evolution has produced," Sony concludes.
