E3 2011: Insomniac assembles misfits spies for new multiplatform game, Overstrike
New Action-heavy co-op game announced at E3 press conference
Insomniac has revealedits first non-Sony exclusive in 16 years;a tongue-in-cheek4-player cooperative action gameentitled Overstrike. Billed as an “Explosive Spy-Fi Adventure”, the title stars a crack(ed) team of agents called Overstrike 9 who must combine their misfitpersonalities andoff-the-wall skills to stop a global terrorist group from wiping humanity off the face of the earth.
Hm, that seems to be a reccuring theme at E3, no?
Check out the new trailer plucked fresh from EA's E3 press conference:
“Overstrike presents a unique blend of features that have long been a part of the Insomniac DNA: high powered gadgets, action-heavy gameplay, memorable characters in a deep and mysterious universe and of course a touch of humor,” said Insomniac boss Ted Price, adding, “And since this is our first multiplatform game, we’re especially excited to introduce ourselves to a new audience — one which may not have experienced our previous games”
Judging by the trailer alone, Overstrikeappears to take a slightly more humorous approach to the action genre, paring Mass Effect-esqueaction with Team Fortress 2 charm. Hopefully we'll see more of this title soon so we can make much more educated comparisons.
Overstrike is being made for the PS3 and Xbox 360.
