Ed Zwick set to re-team with Tom Cruise on Jack Reacher 2
Paramount may just have found itself a new director for its Jack Reacher sequel, with Deadline reporting that Ed Zwick is in negotiations to join the action franchise.
Chris McQuarrie directed the first film, but has since moved on to the Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation hotseat, leaving the door open for Zwick. McQuarrie will still be involved in an executive producer capacity.
Should Zwick sign on the dotted line it would represent a reunion with Cruise who he previously directed in The Last Samurai. As to the sequel itself, it is set to be adapted from Reacher novel Never Go Back, which was published in 2013. The story will see Reacher arrested for a pair of crimes he has no memory of, and battling to clear his name in his own inimitable style.
Richard Wenk has adapted the novel into a screenplay with Zwick and Marshall Herskovitz scheduled to make some revisions before filming can get underway. No release date has been confirmed at this stage.
