Eightballs clack on PS2, PSP

Pool games are one of those great mysteries of the video-game industry. New ones seemingly appear out of thin air on a fairly regular basis, and while we've never heard of anyone looking forward to the next big billiards simulator, they just keep coming.

The latest entries in the genre are due out this fall, courtesy of Sega. The company yesterday announced that it plans to publish World Pool Championship 2007 for the PlayStation 2, and World Pool Challenge 2007 for the PSP. Featuring eight-ball, nine-ball and trick-shot games, both titles will let players compete in more than 10 official pool tournaments as either a real-life pro or their own custom player.

Not much else has been revealed about the games as of press time, but would-be pool sharks will be able to get a much closer look in a couple of weeks when E3 rolls around.

After graduating from college in 2000 with a BA in journalism, I worked for five years as a copy editor, page designer and videogame-review columnist at a couple of mid-sized newspapers you've never heard of. My column eventually got me a freelancing gig with GMR magazine, which folded a few months later. I was hired on full-time by GamesRadar in late 2005, and have since been paid actual money to write silly articles about lovable blobs.
