Emily Blunt talks Looper and superheroes
Exclusive: The Brit actress on genre-hopping
Emily Blunt talks about her varied upcoming roster of projects in the brand new issue of Total Film (out now in magazine and brand spanking new interactive iPad edition forms).
British actress Blunt will next be seen in romcom The Five-Year Engagement , indie three-hander Your Sister's Sister and lo-fi sci-fi Looper .
As she makes genre-hopping look like such as a casual pastime, we had to ask her: does she have a genre preference?
“No, I don’t have a preference at all – I never have done. The only thing I haven’t done is hang from a building, which I’d quite like to do at some point. Or some wire work – something more actiony.”
It's not like she hasn't been close to that though. She didn’t turn down Black Widow role in Iron Man 2 ; to that she responded simply “the timing of it was an issue”.
On playing a superhero, she said:
“I would want to fly. No, scrap that – I wouldn’t want to fly because I’m not great with heights. How about breathe under water – I love to scuba dive. What could she be called?”
Aquawoman?
“Isn’t there an Aquaman?”
Sure – she’s his long lost sister.
“Maybe Fishgirl.”
Or maybe a mermaid-type thing instead?
“A mermaid! Yes!”
The remake of Splash ?
“Yes! Oh please write it. I’d love to do that.”
And on Rian Johnson's Looper , which co-stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Bruce Willis, she told us excitedly:
“It was fucking awesome and I’m unfathomably lucky to be in it.
“I play Sarah, a girl from the Midwest, Kansas, and I live on a farm and I have a son and she’s fierce and protective and tough and I wield a big gun.
"It’s so awesome, so exciting – it looks like an old Spielberg movie. I really think it’s the coolest movie I’ve ever been a part of.”
The Five-Year Engagement opens on 22 June 2012, followed by Your Sister's Sister on 29 June, and Looper on 28 September.
