Ewan McGregor edges closer to Obi Wan trilogy
Back in 2013, early speculation suggested that Ewan McGregor might don the robes to play Obi Wan Kenobi in this year’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens. While it seems - unless his scenes were shot in a cave - he won’t be appearing in Episode XII, if a new report is correct the iconic mentor figure could be one step closer to getting his own series of movies.
This rumored update stems from the folks at Schmoes Know. The site’s sources claim that the wheels are in motion for three films set after the events of Episode III in which Obi Wan will be a flesh-and-blood character - not a force ghost. The movies "would focus on Obi-Wan’s adventures between the two trilogies as he watches over a maturing Luke Skywalker,” and are described as “standalone adventure(s), with the possibility of characters like Owen Lars and Darth Maul appearing.”
McGregor has made it clear that he’d happily return to play the Jedi master so there’s a chance we’ll discover more of his origins in this newly-spawned trilogy, which won’t be released as an Anthology title but a separate series entirely. That being said, we might we see him pop up for an introduction in Rogue One prior to the start of his own adventures. Watch this space...
Star Wars: The Force Awakens opens on December 18, 2015, with the first standalone, Star Wars Anthology: Rogue One, due to arrive on December 16, 2016.
