Giant US studio Sony is throwing a strop over rights to Edie Sedgwick biopic Factory Girl...
Children! Play nice! Proving the never-ending law that some things just can’t be decided by everyone getting around a table and having a quick chat over a steaming mug of tea, Sony in the US are suing producer Holly Wiersma and the production company behind Factory Girl for $6 million. The studio’s problem? Er… The small matter that the Weinstein Company claimed to have acquired distribution rights to the Sienna Miller-starring biopic at Sundance.
Sony’s case, which was filed in LA on Monday, also demands a court order that specifies Sony’s ownership of the rights according to an agreement it claims was reached in October. It’s waving what it says is written proof that Wiersma and her agents agreed to the deal for North American rights.
Expect this one to get heated, particularly if Harvey Weinstein steps in…
