Fear The Walking Dead prepares for an aquatic season 2

The Walking Dead companion series Fear The Walking Dead is taking things south for its sophomore season, currently shooting in Mexico. Harbor any thoughts of the survivors stumbling upon the idyllic Zihuatanejo beach of Andy Dufresne's dreams -- AMC confirms this season is being shot inside the country's Baja Studios. The same location where James Cameron shot Titanic.

Season one left off with Madison, Travis and their brood about to depart the chaos of Los Angeles for the high seas on Strand's boat. If you thought that their sea-faring ways would be brief, think again. The fact that AMC is commandeering a huge studio renowned for its massive ocean sets, suggests they'll be on that boat for a while.

“We are thrilled to be starting production and even more thrilled to be shooting in Mexico,” said series showrunner Dave Erickson. “Baja Studios has been home to some of the greatest ocean-set films in recent years and provides all the creative resources we need to begin this new chapter in the Fear saga. We couldn’t be happier.”

So can we expect swimming zombies when the show returns? "You'll see a lot of people trying to survive," Erickson tells THR. "If you look at Strand's yacht, it's a pretty handsome vessel. It's something that you can survive on for a good period of time, and that's something others might covet. So when you get to the question of what's worse, walker or human, we'll continue that theme. There will be quite a bit of action on the seas — and we'll split it between land and water. But it's going to be an interesting dynamic."

Fear The Walking Dead returns in 2016. No release date has been confirmed.
